1 priority ask included in the Agreed Conclusions

The 57th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) took place from 4-15 March 2013. Its priority theme: ‘Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls’. Within this theme two key areas were focussed on: prevention of violence, and the provision of support services/responses to survivors of violence.

CSW 57 saw the biggest turn out yet with 6000 NGO’s registering. This showed a world record commitment and energy in the fight for gender equality. NGO’s contributed on a huge scale to a momentous atmosphere and a ground breaking (albeit last minute!) outcome document.

Forty Soroptimist International delegates and six SI UN representatives participated in the CSW 57 in order to raise awareness of the issues that women and girls around the world are facing, to share experiences, to network and build partnerships, and to lobby for a set of agreed conclusions that would answer the needs, and respect the rights of women and girls around the world.
